Introduction to Butyl Latex

May 01, 2023

Butyl latex is a type of synthetic latex. The molar content of isoprene is 1.5%~2.0%, and the mechanical stability is good. Multivalent metal ions and hydrogen ions will not cause latex coagulation, but water-soluble alcohols, ketones, and quaternary ammonium salts can cause gelation. Its vulcanization system should adopt sulfur, zinc oxide and dithiocarbamate. Its products have good air tightness, aging resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and other properties. The butyl rubber is made into a solution, emulsified in water with an emulsifier, then evaporated to remove the solvent and concentrated. It can be used to impregnate tire cords to make tubeless tires, and is also widely used in paint, artificial leather and paper industries.
