Raw material for activated alumina production
May 10, 2023
There are two kinds of raw materials for activated alumina production, one is "quick de-powder" produced by gibbsite or bayerite, and the other is pseudo-boehmite produced by aluminate or aluminum salt or both .
Production of x-ρ alumina
x-ρ alumina is the main raw material for the production of activated alumina balls, abbreviated as FCA in foreign countries, because it is alumina powder produced by the rapid dehydration method in China, so it is called "fast de-powder". "Quick powder" is a mixture of x-alumina and ρ-alumina, and the content varies due to the difference in production conditions.
Production method of pseudo-boehmite
Natural or artificially produced alumina monohydrate and alumina trihydrate cannot be used as desiccants, adsorbents, catalysts and catalyst carriers due to their low specific surface area, small pore volume, and low activity. Alumina monohydrate or alumina trihydrate must be processed into pseudo-boehmite. Pseudo-boehmite has high specific surface area, large pore volume, large pore diameter, and high activity, and is suitable for use as desiccant, adsorbent, and catalyst and catalyst carrier in the fields of petrochemical, fertilizer, and tail gas.
