The Physical And Chemical Properties Of Sodium Aluminate
May 15, 2023
Physical Properties
Melting point: 1650ºC
Density: 3.24g/cm3
Appearance: white crystalline powder
Solubility: very soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol
Chemical Properties
1. React with strong acid (such as hydrochloric acid). The reaction first produces a white precipitate, and then the precipitate disappears. The reaction equation is as follows:
NaAlO2+HCl+H2O=Al(OH)3↓+NaCl
Al(OH)3+3HCl=AlCl3+3H2O
The ionic equation is: AlO2-+H++H2O=Al(OH)3↓
Al(OH)3+3H+=Al3++3H2O
2. Reaction with weak acid (such as CO2) to generate Al(OH)3 precipitation:
①Excessive CO2: AlO2-+CO2+2H2O=Al(OH)3↓+HCO3-
②A small amount of CO2: 2AlO2-+CO2+3H2O=2Al(OH)3↓+CO3
